Without an agent...

One of the reasons writers are Adapting Their Scripts to books, is that Film and streaming companies continue to find Adaptation of scripts and books, a great source for original concepts, films, series, and unscripted content.

Having a book version of their script allows them to compete on multiple levels for bringing attention to their script by, simultaneously submitting their script to film industry executives and promoting the book version of their script directly to the public.

  • Having a book version of your script, also serves as a separate business opportunity that you control. Including marketing and promoting the book version of your script on multiple platforms, while simultaneously submitting your scripts to industry executives.

1. For submitting scripts, there are exceptions to having an agent for meeting industry submission requirements. Having an executive producer can provide the access and ability to submit your scripts. The EP only needs to have credits for producing projects with the company you're submitting to or its competitors.

In past years finding someone to help you with experience and access was extremely difficult.

  • No longer is that the case. There are executives all over the place that can assist you. It can be done and is done every day. You just need to decide who you want to assist you.

Speak to our executive producer for more information and if assistance is needed.

2. Who do I contact: The Development Executive which all companies have, will want to review Development Package and polish script. Your package should include what genre is your script, what is it about (in 1 sentence), is there talent attached, a top sheet budget, what quadrant level is it, and other support information revealing public interest in your project?

3. What is required for submitting a script

Your script is not the only or even the first document that industry executives often will want to review first.

Your Development Package is often reviewed before reading your script. It gives a concise overview of how your project meets the creative and production needs of the company you're submitting to.

4. Do I need talent attached to my project? No but there are materials you can attach that is recommended.

  • What companies prefer to see your development package and polished script. Other materials that are recommended but are not mandatory: a visual of what your project is about. i.e. concept video, trailer, pilot, etc.
  • Also, not mandatory but recommended. To compete with insiders, having a visual, published book version of your script, YouTube channel, or numbers showing public interest in your project can be helpful.

5. Script Polish - Keep in mind the first 10 pages of your script must grab and hold the attention of the executive you're submitting to.
