Q: Do I still need an agent or Executive Producer to submit my script? A: Absolutely, but it's no longer that difficult to get help. Keep in mind, no longer do you need to "know someone" to submit your script for you.

  • Fact: the business execs within studios and streaming companies that approve and produce your script, do not care who you know.
  • In past years finding someone to help you was like a scene from Mission Impossible.
  • No longer is that the case. There are executives all over the place that can assist you. It can be done and is done every day. You just need to decide who you want to assist you.

Q: What is the first document a Development Executive at a film or streaming company will want to see?

A: In most cases your script is not the only or even the first document they will want to see. In most cases they will review your Development Presentation.

Q: Why will the first 10 pages of your Polished Script determine if an executive will spend an hour reading the rest of your script?

A: Research has shown there is an extremely short amount of time a film or series has to capture the imagination and hold the attention of an audience.

It is for this reason your script within the first 1-3 minutes (1-3 pages) must grab the attention of the executive you've submitted to. The next 7 pages should be written to continue holding their attention.

Note: This style of writing a script is not designed to change your storyline or concept, but instead impact how it captures the attention of the audience it's targeted for.

  • For example: Law & Order starts with a scene that in the first 1-3 minutes something exciting occurs that makes the audience want to continue watching. The rest of the story revolves around that scene.

Most movies / series are written today using this format.
