Scripting Your Business's Vision and Making Your Team Look Great

How well are you sharing your vision and keeping your team on script??
When it comes to executing our vision for the future and driving the results with the right people in their positions, we are well on our way to putting on a great show for our customers.
The second habit of Stephen Covey's book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, is to "begin with the end in mind." As the Cheshire Cat says in Alice in Wonderland, “If you don’t know where you are going any road can take you there.” It's a pointless quest if we don't know where we're going. Similarly, we can only find significance and fulfillment if all of our actions drive us towards that vision.
For instance, every aspect of a theatre performance, from the players, to the stage set, to all the minor details, must be in sync with the script (plan) and a vision. Everyone involved must be able to communicate the director's vision to the audience.?
When a casting call is held, the director's purpose is to fill specific roles with the most qualified people who can fulfill the vision, while doing credit to their characters. Consider what would happen if the casting director didn't have a script or a vision to go by when determining the right fit. Or he fills the vacancies with any warm body with a pulse to do the work. That would tarnish their reputation of the show, and I dare say, create the world's most abhorrent theatrical show!
The same is true in business.?
As business leaders, we need to define a strong vision of what we want to achieve. Only then would be able to understand the types of characters we need, and the roles they play.
The casting call, our onboarding process, needs to be driven with the end in mind. It is far too easy, especially when we are in crisis, to shortcut the hiring process, especially with today’s labour shortage. The temptation to hire “a pulse,” when we are short-staffed, is undeniable. But like the theatre production, if we put the wrong people in the wrong roles, especially without taking the time and the investment to direct them properly, we run the risk of tarnishing our reputation as a brand of choice.

When we methodically set up our production… that is our business, our department or our teams, with a clear vision as to the outcome, script it (plan) to fulfill the vision and put together the right cast of characters in the right roles, we are on the right track to success.
