Q&A with Ms. Swenson, hedge fund exec, I'm told you fund and do production deals for writers. Is that really happening? If so can writers contact you?

Submitting scripts to investors, studios, streaming, cable, and broadcast companies

Sophie: I got this question from a writer - It's easy to say find an exec to help you, but I just want to get my script submitted to investors, studios, streaming, cable, or broadcast stations. I've got options, but if they fail, I'm just out of money! Why should I waste money?

Q&A?- Ms. Swenson (Sam:) Her international hedge fund group raises funding for major studios and structures production deals for writers and independents.

Sam: Answer to your questions above. Yes. We do fund and negotiate production deals for new writers ... that follow the process. They have to be referred by their agent or financial group. But NO, don't give my info out!

Sam: Answer to your second question: Yes, just like any business when you hire someone to drop their own projects to work on yours comes at a cost. In today's industry that's how this business works. Everyone has a vested and shared interest in their own product (script) to get it developed and produced.

Note: the comment "if they fail, I'm just out of money" definitely do not invest or hire someone to help you, if you believe your script won't meet the needs of the people you want to spend money to produce your project!

Sophie: You and I talk all the time about writers not being able to submit to those companies. Would you be open to submitting scripts writers or can your group submit clients if Susan contacts you?

Sam: Susan knows how this system works. She and her team can submit projects on their own, without anyone's help. Our group, studios, streaming and others hire her or someone like her to analyze scripts and provide reports prior to approving funding or sending projects to production.

• I suggest telling writers, treat their script as a product of the business they're starting, and to get started ... Make a decision about executives they've researched, then choose one to help them.
