About Screenwriting Contests...
3.20.2016 at my trusty desk:
It's come to my attention that someone needs to talk about those 'screenplay contests' that are saturating the internet lately.
BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS before you enter these...
While it sounds like a great idea, the chances that it may be a scam are VERY REAL.
Think about it this way: Can you think of a better way to gain new ideas for your own screenplay, than to run a 'contest' where every Jon Doe, Jane Doe write and send in their 'HOPEFUL' screenplay to you?
Just like Invention helpers (or so they claim to be), and end up stealing your great inventive idea.
Think VERY CAREFULLY about this. I for one, do not wish ANYONE who creates a great story to have someone steal it.
DO YOUR RESEARCH into ANY and ALL companies offering a road to success with Hollywood through your hopeful submissions/screenplays/scripts.
Speak with an Agent of the WGA first. They can direct you in finding the best way to submit your works.
Finally rememeber this always, "This IS a cut-throat business', and if you do not have your smarts about you, you'll get eaten alive by the sharks per-say.
Best of luck with your screenplays, I hope you succeed, and that we'll get to see your story on the Big Screen... and your name... up in lights!
Always, N.I.S (Nicholas In Seattle) and now I'm going to go fall on my face night night! :--))
