Screening Veteran and former PBSA Chair Art Cohen Retires after Distinguished Career

Attorney Art Cohen, Former Chair of the Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA) and long-time screening industry veteran and expert retired at the end of 2019 and is now spending most of his time in Delray Beach, FL.

From 1977 until his retirement, Art was Vice President of Operations and General Counsel at Concorde, Inc. in Philadelphia, PA.  During much of that period Art was an active PBSA member and deeply involved in government affairs and association governance. Previously, from 1975 until he went in-house to join his then client Concorde, which he organized in 1983 as outside counsel, Art was engaged in the private practice of law in Southern New Jersey.

Art attended the first meeting of the PBSA (then known as the National Association of Professional Background Screeners) in Arizona in 2004, not knowing anyone at the meeting. As a result of getting involved and putting in long hours on behalf of the association, Art quickly gained the respect of his peers and moved up in the organization and became the Chair in 2007 where he accomplished a great many things for the organization.

I had the honor of meeting Art at the first PBSA meeting in Arizona and working closely with him on association matters, as well as attending baseball games in Philadelphia, happy hours in Florida and tasting great wines in Napa.

An avid bicyclist, Art now spends part of his time riding in Florida, often making the trip from Delray to Palm Beach and back. He also finds time to golf.

Art has been married to his high school sweetheart, Sue, for 46 years. Sue is a retired computer programmer and IT project manager. They have two children. Dr. Jeffrey Cohen is a psychologist and practices and teaches at Columbia University and its affiliated hospital Columbia-Presbyterian. Neal Cohen, Esq. is dual US-UK admitted attorney currently living and working in London UK. He practices privacy law and has worked at White & Case, Perkins Coie, and Dentons. He is currently a non-resident fellow at both Stanford Law School and Harvard’s Carr Center for Human Rights. Neal’s wife Dr. Laura Bidera Miceli has her Ph.D. in water engineering and works in London for Balfour Beatty, an international engineering firm, and leads a team working on the replacement of London’s potable water infrastructure. They have one child, Sylvia, who is named after Art’s mom. Art is anxiously awaiting being able to teach Sylvia how to swing a golf club and ride a bike.

Best wishes in your new adventures in Florida!
