We’re excited to share that applications are now open for Screen Yorkshire’s Screen Crafts & Digital Skills Bootcamp! If you’re looking to break into the fast-paced world of screen industries, this part-time, four-month programme is here to give you the essential craft and digital skills you’ll need.

About the Bootcamp?

The Skills Bootcamp, funded by the Department for Education and supported by the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority, is part of the Government's Skills for Life strategy. It provides hands-on experience at the entry level for individuals interested in gaining the fundamental knowledge and skills required to work in screen industries.?

Delivered by Screen Yorkshire, the programme runs from December 2024 to March 2025 and offers participants the opportunity to specialise in one of four areas: Art Department, Factual, Lighting, and Post Production. The curriculum includes a mix of workshops, site visits, and talks led by industry professionals from top partners such as Viridian FX, XPLOR at Production Park Wakefield, and Sticks and Glass.?

Programme Highlights?

  • Art Department: Learn the art of set design, CAD, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, and Unreal Engine.?

  • Factual Production: Understand? shaping a story, research, and ethical practices for documentaries and educational content.?

  • Lighting: Gain hands-on experience with set lighting equipment and techniques.?

  • Post Production: Dive into editing, VFX, and colour grading with tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Da Vinci.?

Participants will gain practical, entry-level skills, learning how to work in the screen industries, work collaboratively, and use advanced digital tools like Unreal Engine.?

Who Can Apply??

The programme seeks a diverse group of applicants based in or around York and North Yorkshire, including:?

  • Individuals with no prior experience but a passion for the screen industries.?

  • Freelancers already in the industry seeking to specialise.?

  • Graduates and individuals with transferable skills from other sectors.?
  • 19 years or older (no age limit)
  • Live or work in York or North Yorkshire and surrounds.

Applications from underrepresented groups in the TV, film, and gaming industries are highly encouraged.?
