Scream If You Wanna Go Faster
Geri Halliwell is my go-to girl for goal-setting

Scream If You Wanna Go Faster

I've been working with a client this week on creating new life goals and was reminded of a section in Geri Halliwell's autobiography "If Only" a must read for a GenX gay guy like me.

Geri talks about a ‘Cosmic Shopping List’ of her goals in the present tense before she became famous. Nearly all of the goals on her list have since become true.

Introduction:

Welcome to the Cosmic Shopping List exercise!

Inspired by the fabulous Geri Halliwell, who once sang about spicing up your life, this activity is designed to help you spice up your goals with purpose and meaning. Just as Geri reinvented herself from a Spice Girl to a solo artist, author, UN Ambassador, and advocate for numerous causes, you too can redefine what brings joy and fulfilment to your life. Remember, there are no limits or rules to what you can achieve!

Objective:

To create a set of meaningful, non-materialistic goals that enhance your personal and professional life, fostering a more profound sense of purpose and connection.

Instructions:

1. Reflection:

Find a quiet, comfortable space where you can reflect without distractions. Bring a journal or some paper and a pen.

  • Take a few deep breaths to centre yourself. Imagine inhaling positivity and exhaling any doubts or worries.
  • Reflect on your life's journey so far. What experiences have brought you joy? What moments have made you feel most alive and connected? Jot down any thoughts or memories that come to mind.

2. Categories of Meaning:

Think about the different areas of your life that bring you joy and fulfilment. Use the following categories as a guide:

?????- Professional Achievements

?????- Entrepreneurial Activities

?????- Social Connections

?????- Community Involvement

?????- Health and Well-being

?????- Hobbies and Passions

?????- Relationships

3. Deep Dive Brainstorming:

For each category, write down at least three goals that resonate with you on a deeper level. These goals should reflect your values, passions, and the person you aspire to be.

Dig deep! Ask yourself questions like:?

?????- What legacy do I want to leave in my professional life?

?????- How can I make a difference in my community?

?????- What activities make my heart sing?

?????- How can I nurture my relationships to bring more love and joy into my life?

Remember, there are no limits to what you can dream. Geri Halliwell went from pop star to bestselling author, children's book writer, and a passionate advocate for animal rights and mental health. Your goals can be just as varied and impactful.

Example Goals:

???- Professional Achievements:?

?????- Lead a project that aligns with my passion for sustainable development.

?????- Mentor a junior colleague to help them advance in their career.

???- Entrepreneurial Activities:

?????- Launch a community-based initiative that supports local artists.

?????- Create a blog that shares my journey and insights on personal growth.

???- Social Connections:

?????- Reconnect with old friends and arrange monthly catch-ups.

?????- Join a local club or group that shares my interests.

???- Community Involvement:

?????- Volunteer at a local shelter or charity once a month.

?????- Organize a community clean-up day.

???- Health and Well-being:

?????- Commit to a weekly yoga class to improve my physical and mental health.

?????- Establish a daily meditation practice to reduce stress.

???- Hobbies and Passions:

?????- Take up painting and complete one piece of artwork each month.

?????- Learn to play a musical instrument and practice regularly.

???- Relationships:

?????- Plan a meaningful trip or experience with a loved one.

?????- I dedicate time each week to strengthening my relationship with family members.

4. Visualisation:

Close your eyes and imagine yourself achieving each goal. Visualise the emotions you feel and the positive impact on your life. Picture the smiles, the satisfaction, and the sense of accomplishment.

?Write down these visualisations. How do you feel? What changes do you notice in yourself and your surroundings?

5. Prioritisation:

Review your list and prioritise the goals that resonate most with you. Focus on what feels most meaningful and aligned with your values.

Rank them in order of importance and impact on your life.

6. Action Plan:

Create a simple action plan for each top-priority goal. Break down the steps needed to achieve it and set realistic timelines.

?????- Example Action Plan for a Health Goal:

???????- Goal: Commit to a weekly yoga class.

???????- Steps:

?????????- Research local yoga studios or online classes.

?????????- Choose a class that fits your schedule.

?????????- Set a reminder to attend the class each week.

?????????- Track your progress and note any improvements in your well-being.

7. Review and Revise:

Periodically review your Cosmic Shopping List and action plans. Adjust them to align with your evolving sense of purpose and meaning.

Celebrate your successes and reflect on your lessons from setbacks.

Conclusion:

Embrace your Cosmic Shopping List with the same enthusiasm Geri Halliwell embraced her diverse career.?

Let it be a guiding star that leads you to a more fulfilling and purpose-driven life. Remember, it's not about the material things you accumulate but the meaningful experiences and connections that enrich your journey.?

There are no limits to what you can achieve, so dream big and make your life as extraordinary as you can imagine!

Now, Scream If You Wanna To Go Faster!
