The Project Performance Aspects are the variables that any and every Project Manager must keep both eyes on, during the project life cycle.
PRINCE2 makes it a clear indication of the status of the project by using the "Manage by Exception" Principle. Where the Tolerances set by the Upper Level reflected in those variables, gives each level the means to monitor the status of the level.
Project Managers above all, need to keep an ongoing monitoring eye on the watch for any movement in any of those indicators that might take the Management Stage or the whole Project out to the specified tolerances permitted.
The first Variable is the SCOPE of the Project. And it is a clear understanding among the stakeholders of what is the Project all about and what it should deliver. While the COST variable is as the name implies, the accumulated costs of the Management Stages up to the current moment.
RISK is where the Project Manager and concerned stakeholders do identify and plan for possible events that may affect the Project. And if such events took place, what the effect would be on the Project. On the other hand, BENEFITS are the goal for the project, which must be maintained so the Project would not lose Business Justification.
TIME, or Timescale, is the span of the project that could affect several aspects of the Project, such as cost. And at the end the QUALITY, which should be clearly agreed upon with the Project Board and the Customer to be delivered.
A short name, SCRBTQ, makes it easy to any Project Manager to always remember what he/she should keep his/her eyes wide open to spot any issues that might endanger the Project.
