Scotty’s Landing Area Developed Into Regatta Park

Scotty’s Landing Area Developed Into Regatta Park

“Progress is Impossible Without Change . . .” – George Bernard Shaw

Any long-time Miamian has most likely experienced Coconut Grove’s beloved Scotty’s Landing for an ice cold beer and a grilled fish sandwich. Or perhaps some conch fritters and live music? Unfortunately we may not have much more time to drink in the ambiance at this cherished waterfront hideaway. In 2008, a plan was developed to renovate the Grove’s waterfront with a seven acre, more “mall” esque development, the area to be called Regatta Park. These plans include a new pier, grassy amphitheatre, public walkways around the bay, waterfront restaurants, retail shops, and more. Sounds great right? The bad news is that as it stands now, the plan would indeed signify a farewell to places like Scotty’s Landing and The Chart House. At this time there are some pending lawsuits that have the project on hold, however, the votes in favor of the redevelopment plan do seem to be winning the day.
