Scottish Seafood Features at North America’s Largest Seafood Exposition
We’re back in the UK after a fantastic few days at Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America , the territory’s largest seafood exposition which welcomes thousands of buyers and suppliers from around the world each year.
As our largest global project, we were delighted to host 10 Scottish companies on our Scottish pavilion with a further eight attending the expo too.?
This renowned event gives us an unmissable opportunity to showcase excellent Scottish seafood to buyers, media and key industry leaders. We know the buyers, and we understand the market and the commercial opportunities in North America, and with buyers attending from across import, export, hospitality and retail sectors, it allowed us to showcase world-class seafood from companies across Scotland.
Our industry is passionate about delivering the highest quality product, the perfect versatile choice for the world’s best chefs or the most discerning customers. An event like SENA helped us reinforce this message and ensure more buyers were aware of the quality produce available from Scotland.
Alongside the Seafood Scotland team, which included CEO Donna Fordyce and Nephrops Programme Manager Matthew Hurst , the Scottish pavilion hosted Loch Duart Salmon , LUNAR FREEZING & COLD STORAGE COMPANY LIMITED , MacNeil Shellfish, Organic Sea Harvest Ltd , Scottish Langoustines, Scottish Seas, SCOT WEST SHELLFISH LTD , Skipness Smokehouse , Thistle Seafoods Ltd , and Wester Ross Fisheries Ltd .
It is great to see more and more companies are coming to us for support to enter the North American market, with recent trade wins coming for live shellfish, value-added seafood products and a positive demand for Scottish langoustines owing partly to the work of the Scottish Nephrops Working Group which is administered by Seafood Scotland and led by my colleague, Matthew Hurst
Guests visiting our pavilion sampled product from the exhibiting companies prepared by chef Avi S. and his team which included fish tacos featuring haddock goujons from Thistle, pan fried Loch Duart salmon with a citrus and olive glaze, and whisky-butter langoustines - an indulgent treat that had people lining up for more.
We also held an evening reception at renowned Legal Sea Foods where companies and buyers were able to relax over some light refreshments away from the hustle and bustle of the expo floor. We were welcomed to Boston by His Majesty's Consul General to New England Dr Peter Abbott OBE and updated on the Responsible Seafood Summit which is heading to Scotland in 2024 by Steven Hedlund from the Global Seafood Alliance .
Overall the show was a roaring success with companies reporting strong initial interest from buyers; we're already talking about the 2024 edition and can't wait to get back to Boston to showcase our amazing seafood.
