Scottish Rural Leadership Programme (SRLP)

Scotland’s rural communities are driven by its people and leaders within rural places and businesses play a huge part in shaping the future of our rural economy.

The Scottish Rural Leadership Programme is one of Scottish Enterprise’s flagship programmes. Now in its 19th year, the Programme has supported over 800 business leaders to create additional wealth through leading, team working, influencing and by being ambitious.? It does this by developing the capacity of individuals, building their confidence, widening their boundaries, building industry and parliamentary trust, providing an awareness of rural economic issues and broadening networks; reducing rural isolation and introducing individuals to the wider rural leadership network across Scotland and beyond.

The programme focusses on?personal and leadership development which contributes to?improvements in business performance and growth, productivity, employment, innovation and sustaining?rural communities.? In?addition graduates of the Programme, with their enhanced leadership skills and insight to?policymaking, can adopt?representative and leadership roles in industry and wider community.?

The programme delivers outcomes that are embedded at several levels – the individual leader, their business/organisation, their family and friends, community, and economy. The SRLP ignites a passion for transformational leadership in individuals with the willingness and desire for growth.

One of the key highlights of the SRLP is the strength in bringing together like-minded leaders who are ambitious and who have a real desire to grow their business. The programme has demonstrated significant effects on raising ambition (90%), increasing confidence to lead (90%), improving ability to initiate change and think strategically (75%).

Evidence gathered from a survey undertaken of the most recent 3 cohorts to complete the programme shows it continues to deliver a high level of satisfaction and approval.

• All aspects of the programme received a high satisfaction rating. This included the quality of the support provided (100% very good/good) and the advisor’s knowledge of the subject areas and the appropriateness of the support provided (both 98% very good/good).
• 89% said that they had accessed networking opportunities, 81% that they had improved their leadership skills, and 75% that they had increased their confidence.
• 93% strongly agreed or agreed that the RLP had increased their motivation and ambition to succeed, while 75% said that it had transformed their approach to management and leadership.
• 96% would recommend it to others.
