His expertise has led to the establishment of nearly 1,500 shredding plants worldwide, with more than half of all shredders directly supplied or licensed by Newell. In addition to his field work, Mr. Newell has contributed to the industry with over 100 technical papers and presentations.

During the early stages of his career, Mr. Newell also gained valuable expertise in recycling and manufacturing through executive leadership roles with Newell Shredder, Newell Industries, Newell Magnets, Newell Manufacturing Company, Newell Salvage Company, and Eumet. Devoted to his country, Mr. Newell also served in the ROTC during the late-1950s.

An expert in his field, Mr. Newell studied at Baylor University in 1959 and1959 Trinity University and Arizona State University 1960 and 1961. Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge by completing coursework in mechanics and welding and correspondence law at Lasalle University. Driven to stay abreast of ongoing industry changes, he is affiliated with the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) and the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) . In addition to his professional endeavors and affiliations, Mr. Newell has contributed to his community through being a Trustee at the Baptist Memorial Hospital System and the Mission Road Foundation.

Mr. Newell's professional achievements have been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, a significant milestone in his career.
