Scotland welcomes the world: co-hosting the Responsible Seafood Summit 2024

We are delighted to be co-hosting the Responsible Seafood Summit alongside the Global Seafood Alliance in St Andrews. Taking place from 21 to 24 October at the Fairmont St Andrews hotel, the event will welcome between 400 and 500 seafood professionals from across the globe. Will you be joining us? A milestone for Scotland ?

This summit marks a significant moment for Scotland as we take on the role of host for the first time in the summit’s 23-year history. For Seafood Scotland, seeing the global industry come together in St Andrews is a proud moment, showcasing our country’s strong ties to quality seafood and?innovation across the sector.

St Andrews, famous for its world-class golf and prestigious university, is also steeped in fishing heritage, making it an ideal location to showcase the best of our sector to the world.?

Bringing the global seafood industry to Scotland?

For four days, Scotland will be at the centre of the seafood world as we welcome farmers, fishers, processors, exporters, importers, feed manufacturers, wholesalers, retail and foodservice buyers, technology providers, NGOs, and government officials. That’s quite a list! ??

It’s an unrivalled opportunity for industry professionals to network, collaborate, and discover innovations shaping the future of seafood.?

One of the most exciting aspects of the summit will be the field trips, offering visitors the chance to experience Scotland’s seafood industry in action. There’s something for everyone ...?

1. Salmon Industry Experience?

Participants will visit MOWI’s state-of-the-art packing facility in Rosyth, followed by a tour of BioMar’s feed production site in Grangemouth. Here, visitors can learn why Scotland’s salmon industry is world-renowned for its innovation and sustainability.?

2. Cultural Journey through Fife?

For those looking to explore Scotland’s rich cultural heritage, a trip through the East Neuk of Fife will take visitors to the historic coastal communities of Anstruther and Pittenweem. Highlights include a visit to the Scottish Fisheries Museum, Pittenweem Harbour, and East Neuk Salt Company, offering a deep dive into Scotland’s centuries-old fishing traditions.?

3. West Coast Adventure ?

A trip to the west coast will feature a visit to Loch Fyne Oysters Ltd and the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling , placing guests at the heart of Scotland’s seafood sector. Scientific field trips will also provide insight into research advancements, with stops at Rastech, Xelect Ltd , and the Scottish Oceans Institute at the University of St Andrews .?

4. Seafood Processing and Logistics ?

We have trips to local fishmongers and processors, including JK Thomson in Port Seton, Welch Fishmongers in Edinburgh, and Thistle Seafoods Ltd in Uddingston. A tour of DFDS , a logistics giant supporting our seafood exports, will also be included.?

May be you can discuss why 17 million fish died prematurely on Scottish salmon farms last year? Or the impact these farms have on the wild population, or the impact of heavy chemical use on the local ecosystems? This is not a sustainable industry. Quit the greenwashing agenda.
