SCORM 2021

Dear peers in the Digital Learning space,

I wanted to share with you the insider highlight of the year.

Like many of you, I still live and struggle with SCORM 1.2, (celebrating its 20 years). Even though new formats have been released, 90% of the eLearning I publish on our LMS(s), are still 1.2.

Because it works.

Usually.

This week, I uncovered, tadaaa: SCORM 2021.

One of our vendors sent me an eLearning package published in good old 1.2. We tested it and assigned to a few hundred users. To our great despair, we got roughly 90% failure rate in the post score to the LMS.

Luckily, the vendor had anticipated this! As the learner reaches the end of the course, a popup appears on the learner's screen:

"For technical reasons, the quiz score could not be sent to your Learning Platform. Please take a screenshot of this page and send to your Learning Department. Sorry for the inconvenience."

As Clarke said: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

Could it be that SCORM 2021 is pure magic ?
