Science writer/editor - pondering my next move!

Great science journalism jobs are scarce, and I want my next job to be awesome.

So here's the deal: If you know anyone who's hiring and needs a great science editor or writer, please let me know! And this is who they will get:

Programmable matter. Tactile Internet. Merging neutron stars. Antibiotic resistance. New approaches to de-icing planes.

Science, tech and health stories of the last decade – big and small – you name them, there’s a chance I covered them. Or commissioned them and edited reporters’ drafts. I am an accomplished multilingual editor, ex-BBC and Nature journalist, with more than 10 years of experience in technology, science and health journalism – print and online (plus some TV and radio). Currently I am a regular contributor to Quanta magazine, one of their ‘Quanta mechanics,’ as they call us. I’m also the chief editor of a UK tech mag for engineers, Professional Engineering; a year ago I was asked to completely refresh this magazine to essentially bring it back to life (which got me shortlisted for the Technology Editor of the Year award of the British Society of Magazine Editors).

I've taken my baby to a tech conference, because STEM matters; I've given talks and moderated panels. I've written a book and am now writing another one, on astrophysics - for a general audience. I've broken important science stories and reported from all over the world, from the Pampas of Argentina to the noisy streets of Kathmandu. And now I am pondering my next career move.

As a former freelancer, I’m a self-starter. As an editor, I know how to work with and manage teams. I’ve got plenty of multi-platform experience: I can write for print and online, as well as film, edit, moderate panels and give public speeches. My articles have appeared in Wired, New Scientist, Nature, Quanta, Nautilus, BBC News and BBC Future, Science, Scientific American, The Economist and Physics World. And I really do know my science and tech – I’ve got a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from McGill, MA in Journalism from UWO and postgrad training in Theoretical Physics from King’s College London.

Interested? Know someone who is? Do get in touch!
