The Science of Team Building

The Science of Team Building

For this seventh episode of Notes from the Lab we explore team building through collaboration and competition. Here in Québec, board games are very aptly called jeux de société meaning they are meant to be played by multiple people. At IPST, board game nights have become part of our organizational culture.

Biotech companies are traditionally built around innovation, and a strong work culture and teamwork significantly boost creativity, productivity, and, of course, job satisfaction. We take great pride in the fact that our employees consistently highlight "teamwork" and "work culture" as some of the most valued aspects of working at IPST.

Playing board games is a great tool for fostering team building and collaboration within a company. These games offer a unique platform for employees to engage in friendly competition while simultaneously developing such essential skills as communication, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and decision-making. The interactive nature of the board games promotes teamwork and cross-functional collaboration, cultivates a sense of unity among colleagues. And, of course, it is just a nice way to break from the usual routine and have fun.

As the world of science continues to evolve, we are excited to share an intriguing observation with you: During our board game sessions, we have noticed that our employees naturally form teams based on their professional assignments. This highlighted the immense value of “IPST board game nights” as a means of fostering cross-team communication.

The importance of this cannot be overstated, as it strengthens collaboration and understanding among colleagues from different departments. By engaging in these enjoyable and interactive experiences, we are enhancing the bonds between our teams and creating a platform for effective communication that extends beyond individual projects. We believe that this cross-team approach is essential for promoting a harmonious work environment and driving collective success at IPST.?
