EU Regions Week is the biggest event dedicated to EU cohesion policy, local government and rural development.
This year it will take place in Brussels from Monday 7 October to Thursday 10 October.?
Like every year, the European Commission's scientific services will be there to talk about EU-funded research and how it can empower local communities, strengthen civic engagement and boost democratic participation.??

This session will offer policy recommendations for the effective monitoring and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and enhance EU regions’ progress towards the achievement of the Global Goals.
Cities are responsible for the majority of the European Green Deal policies. This session will offer a suit of practical tools to support cities in identifying priorities in local development plans.
A workshop on how EU and community-led local development initiatives can foster sustainability and well-being in rural areas.
Artificial Intelligence can be a catalyst for place-based solutions, offering opportunities to boost regional innovation and the digital transition.

This session recognises an important milestone for the 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities plan to achieve climate-neutrality by 2030. . During the interactive part of the Session the Mission Manager Patrick Child will moderate a 20-25 min discussion with 3 Mayors who will be sharing their experiences and knowledge, having led their city to the award of the Mission Label and next steps to implement their Climate City Contracts.?
During this event, the JRC will bring together EU territories interested in walking towards innovation to drive systemic transformation. It's the kick-off of the European Union Preparatory Action on place-based transformative innovation launched by the Commission and supported by the European Parliament, which will run during the next two years to facilitate, promote and further disseminate transformative innovation.??

We aim to exchange best practices between stronger and less developed regions to create new interregional value chains in health – a key sector for improving regional competitiveness. We will share insights on interregional investments in innovation in healthcare, followed by three working tables: a) building regional ecosystems; b) support for SMEs; 3) S3 platforms and impacts on SMEs. This session is targeted towards healthcare organisations, regional authorities, clusters and SMEs?

In this session, experts will discuss how location-based innovation and knowledge networks can prioritize and contribute to environmental sustainability and the green transition in European regions. They will share insights from the ERA_FABRIC project and offer a toolbox of best practices.?

At this event, the key outcomes of a Eurobarometer survey on European citizens' awareness and readiness for disaster risks will be shared and discussed. Speakers from Horizon 2020 projects like LINKS and ENGAGE will then explore ways to improve European disaster resilience.?

Urban greening projects can transform neighbourhoods. The groundbreaking EU-funded project 'Greenlulus' highlights the threat of social exclusion posed by green gentrification. Researchers have also put forward policy tools to ensure that every European is part of their city’s green transformation. Francesc Baró is an (urban) environmental scientist and assistant professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Brussels.?

Green spaces are an integral part of healthy and livable urban environments. Their availability is a question of environmental justice and equity. While the benefits of urban green spaces are well documented, little is known about greenery in everyday urban travel environments. Funded by the European Research Council, the 'Green Travel' project is researching the well-being impacts of green urban travel environments. The project provides approaches on where to add greenery to advance equity.?
