Science Education: Gujarat among bottom 5 states in country
Why The State which is in Richest top 5 states is in the Bottom 5 states in Science Education ?
The recent TOI article says Gujarat is in bottom five states in the country when it comes to science education. What can be the issue - it’s chicken egg story. Student quality and job availability is the challenge. Science students have better job opportunities in cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune as compared to Ahmedabad thus they prefer to take qualification from these states so that they can be placed through campus there. There are more than 50,000 engineering seats in Gujarat however more than 20,000 remains vacant resulting into shutdown of 4-5 colleges every year.
On other hand Commerce qualification has better opportunities in sectors like Banking and Finance in which Gujarat has better employability rate.
