The science behind a learning organization and a culture of continuous performance

A practical guide to creating a learning organization and activating a continuous learning and performance culture.

Leaders play a critical role in fostering a culture of continuous learning and performance. The science of constant learning is a dynamic action that triggers an environment of continuous improvement and has become an applied obligation in both personal and business. Continuous improvement, not only as an individual but as a team overall, is a critical principle in collaborative learning. The need to learn is a constant challenge to incorporate into our everyday. Leaders who foster continuous performance help employees learn, improve and solve problems through this competence. When teams share their experience for the benefit of the group, they provide a service. They are known as agents of change and champions, contributing to a learning organization, agility, and continuous performance culture.

Developing future skills requires knowing what skills help add value to our clients, teams, and organization. Team learning is part of skills development and eliminates the blindness that drives a stagnant workforce. Creating an agile and open environment where skills, knowledge, and lessons learned are shared contributes to developing practices on the team necessary to becoming a learning organization. Leaders can take three simple steps to activate their team's learning journey, improve performance, and strengthen team engagement.

  1. Take the time to brainstorm what skills the teams want to benefit from and prioritize the skills the team wants to begin learning together. Remote teams can use collaborative tools such as Mural and the voting function to prioritize learning by the highest votes.
  2. Give your team time to diverge and conduct individual research for self-learning and application. Everyone has various ways of learning; empowering your team to use the best learning approach for each individual will contribute to diverse learning. Converge as a team and encourage everyone to share their knowledge, application, and experience; this allows your team to practice a growth mindset.
  3. Finally, allow for reiteration and have your squad revisit what learning needs to be prioritized based on the needs of the business. This iterative approach help squads adjust quickly and align on agreed priorities and business need.

"Skills are the new currency" is a known saying in today's culture for the simple reason that to compete, it is essential to be equipped for the next opportunity, so it's necessary to adopt the habit and culture of continuous and team learning. Team learning promotes an agile culture of continuous improvement within the organization resulting in a capable and prepared workforce ready for future opportunities.

Where are you on your Journey? Be encouraged to immerse yourself in a learning culture, learn something new today, and share it with others because the more we share, the more we learn. I invite you to join me; it doesn't matter if you still need to practice; refresh your memory in something you know and start. The rest will be a consequence.

I love the phrase "skills are the new currency" this is a fact ! I would also say that mentoring and shadowing are awesome ways to learn while being in action.
