Sciatica Settled.
Lower back pain

Sciatica Settled.

Sciatica has been known to be a crippling condition. There have been many variations of this term, however, true sciatica is a compression of the sciatic nerve, which is responsible for the feeling in the lower back, back of the legs, big toe, and the outer side of your foot. Having this condition can leave individuals in agonising pain felt in the lower back, as well as shooting pain down the leg, accompanied with numbness and/or pins and needles in the leg and foot. This could lead to a reduction of mobility and daily living activities, which can affect your quality of life.

TAKE BACK CONTROL

There are beneficial tips that can reduce your symptoms.

First tip – pain relief

Now I am not an advocate of pain medications but in this scenario, it could be a wise decision. Make an appointment with your local GP and explain your symptoms. They will be able to give you the medication needed for the pain that you are experiencing. Alternatively, find your position of ease either by lying on your front with a pillow under your stomach, lying on your side with a pillow in-between your legs, or lying on your back with pillows under your knees. Normally it can take two/six weeks before you see any substantial difference.

Second tip- ask a physiotherapist

Physiotherapist are vital to speed up the recovery process for individuals with this condition. Not only can they give you a better understanding of what is happening, but they are able to give you specific exercises for your pain as well as tips and exercises to prevent this from happening in the future.

Third tip – say I want to feel ‘Resilient, Revitlaised, and Relieved’

It is known that having positive thoughts can reduce stress and can improve your overall health. At R3 Physiotherapy, we make that our priority!

We give you the best advice and strategies to get you back on your feet leaving you feeling
