SchoolNet SA Celebrates our 2024 Achievements

SchoolNet South Africa has had an incredible year in 2024, marked by significant achievements in advancing digital education and fostering a culture of learning among teachers and SMMEs. This year, like the 26 years before, SchoolNet has been committed to enhancing digital skills across various educational settings, ensuring that both educators, learners and communities are well-equipped for the challenges of the future.

One of the standout achievements of 2024 has been the empowerment 11,258 individuals, including a substantial number of youth, through comprehensive training initiatives. This year alone, 194 workshops were conducted across 229 schools, directly impacting 5,021 educators while also engaging youth in learning opportunities tailored to their needs.

Through partnerships with organisations such as the @TelkomZA (Telkom Foundation), Microsoft Education , @EngieSouthernAfrica (Biotherm Renewable Energies), and the Commonwealth of Learning , SchoolNet offered customised training programs that allowed schools to select digital skill modules best suited for their unique contexts. This bespoke approach ensured that both teachers and learners received relevant training that directly addressed their challenges and aspirations. All of SchoolNet’s programs align with the @Department of Basic Education’s policies and frameworks on digital learning and ICT integration for improved teaching and learning, and they are SACE-endorsed. Once again we were honoured for our efforts by being in 2024 for @UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development.

Another highlight of the year was our Digital Learning Conference, held from March 25 to March 27. This event attracted over 350 delegates, including educators, industry experts, and government officials, all focused on exploring innovative practices in digital education. The conference featured discussions on critical topics such as coding, robotics, and assessment strategies, emphasising SchoolNet’s commitment to preparing learners for a digital future.

Recognising the diverse needs within the educational landscape, SchoolNet continued its collaboration with the Department of Communication and Digital Technologies to provide ICT training specifically designed for special needs schools. This initiative not only trained teachers but also included youth participants, ensuring that learners have access to quality digital education.

As we move into 2025, SchoolNet remains dedicated to expanding its reach and enhancing its programs. Upcoming projects aimed at integrating technology into classrooms and empowering more educators, learners, and youth through targeted training initiatives are on the horizon. Ongoing and new partnerships will continue to play a crucial role in driving these efforts forward.

SchoolNet extends heartfelt gratitude to all our partners, educators, learners and communities for their unwavering support throughout the year. Together, we are not just adapting to change; we are leading it. Here’s to another year of impactful learning and growth!
