SCHOOL PRINCIPAL'S DAILY TASK CHECK LIST
“THE TEN (10) THINGS THAT MATTER”
PRACTICAL TIPS
- Phone at least one parent to personally share “some good news” about their child's achievements.
- Commend a staff member on his/her achievement of some positive school or community related outcome. “Warm Fuzzies” do wonders!
- Publicly share a “good news story” both within the school itself (on parade) and beyond the school in the wider school community via Newsletter or some other communicative means.
- Hear at least six (6) students individually read to you either in their classrooms during school time or in your office prior to the commencement of or during the school day.
- Spend time sharing and praising the efforts of students sent to your office for reward purposes. (Encourage Classroom Teachers to support this strategy)
- Meet parents upon their arrival at the school precinct simply “for a pleasant greeting and chat” (“Front gate visibility” is highly recommended at “drop off” and “pick-up” times.)
- Schedule time for listening to, understanding and mentoring individual students and staff members (Very important to hold “Fire-side Chats” individually with ALL members of the School -(Staff & Students alike – particularly so with “targeted strugglers”) These “one to one” face-to face interactions are “Relationship Building and Bonding GOLD!”
- Schedule time for “Playground Interaction” - Catch a ball/ Kick a goal/ coach a team and model desired and caring behaviours even if it means bending down and placing a piece of litter in the bin rather than simply walking over it!
- Constantly remind yourself that your Office IS NOT your home... IT'S IN AND OUT AND AROUND ABOUT THE CLASSROOMS where you rightfully belong. Plan to visit a number of different classrooms each and every day to engage and participate in the TEACHING/LEARNING act itself.
- Reserve some time at the end of each day for SELF -REFLECTION! Talk to yourself.. “How did I go with it Mate?”
Did I tick all boxes?”

4 年A classic list....all important, but the reflection bit is just so important...don't just keep powering on or plodding, depending your situation...stop each day and reflect...reconsider the powering on, lift the plodding.

4 年Les I recall a list like this in a magazine call MIC in 1980. I kept them for 30 years but they were destroyed in the 2011 flood of Brassall State School.? Trust you are well.?? Peter Doyle?
