A School Leader's Love Letter to Little Learners

A School Leader's Love Letter to Little Learners

You know what's funny? I'm not even a teacher. But every morning, when those tiny backpacks come bouncing through our school doors, my heart just lights up. I run this preschool, and while my job involves a lot of "grown-up stuff" like hiring and paperwork, my favorite moments are when I sneak away to spend time with our little ones.

?

The secret to our school? I don't just hire teachers – I look for people whose eyes light up when they talk about that time a kid finally figured out how to zip their jacket, or who get genuinely excited about finger painting gone wrong. Because that's what matters more than any fancy degree or years of experience: the pure joy of being around children.

?

Sometimes I'll walk into a classroom and end up sitting cross-legged on the floor, completely forgetting about that important email I was supposed to send. Why? Because Vihaan wants to show me how he built a "robot-dinosaur-spaceship" out of blocks, and honestly, that's way more interesting than my inbox.

?

It hurts my heart when parents come in worried that their 4-year-old isn't "performing" well enough. When did we start expecting toddlers to act like tiny office workers? In our school, we celebrate the kid who spent 20 minutes figuring out how to make purple paint (even if they used half our supply doing it), and the one who would rather sort blocks by size than recite the alphabet.

?

Running this school has taught me more about leadership than any business book ever could. From our preschoolers, I've learned that sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to take a nap first. That sharing is hard but worth it. And that a good dance party can fix almost anything.

?

Sure, my office often has crayon masterpieces instead of spreadsheets displayed, and I probably know more cartoon character names than business jargon now. But when I see a child who was too scared to leave their parent's side when they came for admission now confidently leading their friends in playground adventures? That's better than any quarterly report.

?

I might not be teaching, but I'm helping create a space where children can be children. Where "learning" means exploring, making messes, asking endless questions, and sometimes just watching ants march across the playground because hey – that's fascinating stuff when you're four.

?

So no, I'm not a teacher. But these kids? They're teaching me something new every single day. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
