Scholar Media Digest: Africa’s rich minerals; why solution-based learning; Agriculture as Africa’s backbone and law on climate change
Hello, the Scholar Tribe,
Welcome to this week’s edition of your favourite Scholar Media Newsletter as we bring you the most captivating stories that have elicited debate and rattled policy makers.
?Indeed, the world has become a global village, thanks to technological, economical and infrastructural advancements among other progressive developments.
?All this, has been made possible by the availability of resources, especially natural resources, most being found in the virgin lands of the African continent.
Being the cradle of human life, Africa carries with it massive resources including minerals whose products have turned the world into a one global village.?
Mama Africa’s signal towards exploitation and prudent use of these resources was shown recently when African states converged on Arusha, Tanzania to discuss how to properly, sufficiently utilise minerals at their disposal.
The proposed development of African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) couldn’t have come at a better time, when Africa, has started a process of speaking in one language.
?The AMDC, once completed and fully put in use, will see African countries jump out of the dungeon of hopelessness and benefit immensely from their own minerals for unrivalled sustainability.
?Besides, all this cannot be achieved if our education system remains stagnant. Right from the formative years to the highest level of education, the African child should be able to acquire high quality and cutting-edge education.
?Research and skills must be the order of the day in our universities so that graduates can offer solutions to the problems and challenges that face the African continent.
Solution based learning, as advanced by Principal Secretary of the State Department for Higher Education Dr Beatrice Inyangala, is the way to go.
Being the cradle of humankind, Africa, therefore, is the home basket of food for the world. However, we have lagged far behind due to a lack of empowered young Africans who value agriculture as a key component of life.
Most lack knowledge and most importantly, resources to help them practice agriculture.

Finally, there can be no achievement, success or victory where lawlessness reigns supreme. There are so many pieces of law, but do you know all of them?
Well, we all know that the effects of climate change can be catastrophic to the environment and hit the economy so hard.
Recently, President William Ruto led African states in a robust plan to mitigate the effects of climate change and this does not need speeches, it needs money. But money cannot be dished out without a proper plan and laws, hence the need for Climate Finance law.
To run concurrently with Climate Finance, we need Competition Laws to ensure fair play by stakeholders.
