Dreaming & Scheming in the Dog Days of Summer

Greeting from sweltering hot Hartwell, Georgia! The heat index will reach 107 today - whew! You break a sweat just standing! Need a break from this. However, as hot as it is, I'm just grateful that Hurricane Debby didn't make it this far north. Sending good thoughts to any of my readers who were impacted.

So, this isn't so much a newsletter as it is an update . . .

As many of you know, we celebrated our 25th anniversary in May if this year. Kind of hard to believe. Pre COVID we hosted 4 events a year in Palm Beach, Dallas, San Francisco and New York. God love you if you remember our fantastic Forums in London, Geneva and Zurich! Those were the gold old days . . .

Post COVID, we resumed Forums in all locations except San Francisco. Unfortunately, I'm not going back there anytime soon for a variety of reasons. Don't get me wrong, I love San Francisco, it's just not where I want to put my energy right now. I'm looking to do something new and fresh.

In 2020, I relocated to Georgia from East Hampton after spending most of my adult life in NYC. I was lucky to live there in some of the best times the city had to offer. It also helped that "hedge funds" were on fire and I was in the thick of it. I was even featured in Forbes in June of 2013. Apparently, Forbes thought I was "an elegant blonde with a golden Rolodex"! Just the word "Rolodex" is dating! Anyway - yes, I now have a great CRM that I still refer to as as a "Rolodex" - it's seriously deep with connections in alts all over the place dating back to the early 90's.

I wasn't actually planning to move to our farm in Hartwell until I retired but, COVID changed everything. A two week visit to reduce or "flatten the curve" (now officially referred to as FTC) turned into a couple of years. I heard that back home, the Hamptons were a disaster. Understandably, New Yorkers tried to rent or buy anything just to get out of the city. So, my retirement build got moved up by a few years and I sold in EH. It was good timing on the real estate transaction, but none the less, bittersweet.

Over the last few years, I have noticed that the South is a bit of a “fly over” zone for people traveling from the east coast to the west coast and from either coasts to Florida. So, I’m considering the possibility of holding a Forum in either, Atlanta, Charlotte or Hartwell, Georgia, where I successfully hosted a Forum in June of 2021.

A Forum in Atlanta or Charlotte would be our usual one-day event - possibly “launch cocktails” the night before. I’m thinking that mid to late October would be good timing since the weather will be cooler.

A Hartwell Forum would be held at Cateechee Golf Club (a top-100 course) and would feature a welcome dinner with cocktails, a one day Forum followed by an optional dinner and complimentary golf the next day.

I’m looking for any feedback you can offer on a Forum in the South - city, venue/location, timing - anything that comes to mind.

Hope to hear from you soon and do enjoy the balance of the summer. Before you know it, it will be Labor Day and our hectic schedules will resume!

All the best, Jane

Jane, I relocated to Atlanta area four years ago from Dallas and I think a southern based Atlanta area round table is just what the doctor ordered. You might take a look at Trilith, which includes the largest movie studio in the US and is only 25 minutes from the Atlanta airport. It’s not north Atlanta, but it’s certainly well situated for people flying in.
