Scheduling for Academic Engagement, Synchronous, Asynchronous, Virtual, In-Person Instruction, and Contact Tracing

American Education has changed PERMANENTLY!!!!

We will return to schools where all students now have electronic devices and staff and students have been interacting through digital Learning Management Systems [LMS]. Students have gotten accustomed to electronic assignment submission and electronic assessments. The dog can never again eat the homework!! Even when we return to "Full Learning In-Person" [FLIP] I know these gains will not be lost. Every teacher will be teaching in a Flipped Classroom where all the content materials are available online and the teacher's role is no longer the 'Sage on the Stage' but a 'Content Coach in the Corner.'

All classes will be recorded so they can be offered synchronously and asynchronously. When students are ill and not able to come to school physically they will be able to log in from anywhere through their devices. Absence will no longer be an excuse for missed or unsubmitted work. Online gradebooks will allow students and parents to continue to monitor student progress in real time. Bad weather will no longer result in school cancellation, only in a switch to virtual instruction. There will be no more snow days or bad weather days.

Attendance will be monitored for In-Person and Virtual attendance, using some version of a In-person Present, Absent, Tardy [IPAT] protocol and Virtual Present, Absent, Tardy [VPAT] protocol. Measures of engagement, measuring online activity and responses, will be used to evaluate student engagement.

We are not about to go back in education to what it was!!

We will, and we must move forward to our new normal, embracing and engaging technology in scheduling, attendance, instruction, assessment, engagement, discipline, and ensuring EQUITY for all students!!

Welcome to education for a new millennium embracing the new four R's: Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic, and digital liteRacy!!
