SCETA Graduate Tristan Euringer Finds His Niche

SCETA Graduate Tristan Euringer Finds His Niche

We are thrilled to announce that SCETA (Siemens Canada Engineering and Technology Academy) Cohort 6 alumnus Tristan Euringer (he/him) is doing exciting work as a Production Cell Engineer operating out of our Siemens RuggedCom site!

Tristan graduated from Humber College in the spring of this past year in the Electrical Engineering and Control Systems program. He worked a great deal with programmable logic controllers (or PLCs), control systems, and other electronics. In the first summer of SCETA, Euringer worked at Siemens Peterborough under the leadership of Craig Ferguson to work in an electronic-focused role as a part of the Process Engineering team. At the time, Tristan successfully used equipment to work on flow ovens and redesigned parts of cells to ensure that they were more efficient.

Fast forward to spring of 2021, and Tristan joins the RuggedCom team in Concord, reporting to Marwan Totayo as a Production Cell Engineer! In this role, Tristan works on technical projects while fostering continuous improvement. He describes his work, saying, “We’re a bit like the main engineering support for production and manufacturing at the plant.” His team does a lot of root cause analysis, problem solving, and his unit acts as a touchpoint between inter-related departments. Tristan and his team work hard on continuous improvement and brainstorming innovative ideas in their day-to-day operations.

TRISTAN EURINGER

We asked Tristan what he enjoys most about working for Siemens Canada: “Siemens cares about its employees; the atmosphere from the top-down is committed to making people feel supported. I enjoy the commitment Siemens has to further educating its employees. I find that “you get to pick” tends to be the theme for new learnings. I also enjoy bringing new ideas to my teammates.”

Furthermore, Euringer spoke briefly about what parts of SCETA training he believes contributed the most to his success as an employee:

1.?????Fireside Chats – Faisal Kazi, Siemens Canada’s CEO was introduced to Cohort 6 on Day one which set a strong impression: “Siemens cares about new employees” said Tristan.

2.?????“Training programs on business, financials, and personality, helped us build up our vocabulary about what we needed to think about entering the workplace.”

3.?????“Being introduced to different facilities in Canada – knowing what the options are for placements help you shape an idea of where you want to be. This helps students get a feel for the climate of the company” said Euringer.

Tristan also appreciates Siemens’ corporate culture:?“Plenty of support is offered to staff in terms of mental health resources, and the company also stays current to what people are interested in. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Siemens has been flexible about how it has been pursuing the hybrid workplace.” He recommends that, if a student is able and eligible, they apply to SCETA. “The company works hard to match people with jobs that work for them, and provides them with training before they’re placed in roles immediately.”

MARWAN TOTAYO – HEAD OF PRODUCTION ENGINEERING

How would you describe Tristan as an employee, and how do these aspects make him successful at work?

It was clear from the start that Tristan loves to learn. He discovers all the processes independently and is such a self-starter! He is a great team player and communicates very well with the production team. He is always looking for ways to improve the line and works well across all functions.

Which aspects of the SCETA training do you believe contributed most to Tristan’s new role?

Most of my team is from SCETA! They’re great presenters and come very prepared to work. They know how to find a solution to a problem, and are strong, confident researchers.

What are Tristan’s top skills?

He’s very organized and works well with our team. Tristan is humble about his strengths, and thus, shows a lot of humility. Finally, he’s not afraid to ask questions.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I work to ensure that my employees feel empowered; I coach them and let them know that it is OK to fail at something they try for the first time. Our entire team works well together.

About SCETA:

The Siemens Canada Engineering and Technology Academy consists of two consecutive summer co-ops which ‘sandwich’ the students’ final year of their degree. So, students typically join us the summer before the last year of their program for their first summer work term. We have representation each year from students across Canada, enrolled in engineering, trades, or related programs. After the 17-month period, students have the opportunity to be hired on full-time for Siemens, and so the SCETA program is an excellent way for students to kick-start their careers at Siemens.
