Sceptic to Raving Fan – Driving an EV Dispels Myths and Fears
A couple of absolutely fascinating extracts from Cox Automotive Europe’s latest Market Insight, published on February 11th 2025;
Their most recent study of 2,700 UK motorists revealed that?79% did not drive an EV, and only 17% were considering one for their next purchase. These figures strongly suggest that misconceptions about electric vehicles are still widespread, according to Cox Automotive's interpretation.
The term "misconception" was highlighted when the report indicated that among those who have transitioned to an EV, an impressive 87% stated that it met or exceeded their expectations—a strong indication that first-hand experience fosters increased confidence.
Another interesting finding focused on range anxiety concerns. While 42% of EV drivers noticed a difference between advertised and real-world performance, only 25% reported significant range issues, suggesting that range anxiety may be overstated.?
Many of us who drive an EV will, I’m sure, have faced negative perceptions and comments from family, friends and colleagues about driving one. If we can do one thing to turn sceptics into raving fans, it is getting them behind the wheel of an EV and understanding the driving and cost benefits for themselves.
