Scene kya hai!
If you from my hometown this a common way of asking anyone what the update is or asking feedback information. As a Marketing Professional you need often interact with people and asking the right question matters. People are hesitant and some time apprehensive about asking the right question.
There is a common notion that once you build up a relationship with any client the information would come to you. But is it the right information? Is the person giving the information the correct source and knows the right answers? So, to quote one of my favorite television host the Late Larry King I believe we need to “Ask More and Use Emotional Intelligence”. Most marketing professionals are hesitant to ask the right question, I believe that you need to ask the perceptive / thoughtful question. Understand what is being said in entirety rather than listening just to reply. Well for once I can state this with experience that I was not always into questing the idea or proposal plan, would rather follow like a foot soldier and get it done with more lines of “getting the monkey off my back.”
A decade back I was fluttered at being lectured on understanding of the client’s “Psychographics” and it did not go down well with me. The demarche was loud and clear that I need to see the Big Picture, what is the end objective of the campaign strategy? how would it benefit the client and what can you bring to the table that is advantageous to the client’s campaign. Being young and na?ve I did not care much as getting the task done was rather important, not really being bothered about until that day and I still remember learning it the hard way.
As we grow in our careers, we need to learn, adapt, and evolve or we would end up being the new age dinosaur we all know what happened to the Lizard Kings and Big Brands that were too rigid and did not adapt to the new way.
The answers to that are simple formula:
- Accepting ignorance and learning more.
- Listen to the answers.
- Don’t over think or overdo things, keep it simple.
- Use Emotional Intelligence
In the real-world scenario, being prepared for any eventuality is important that rather trying to be fixated on trying to create a perfect solution. So, be ready and let it go after all doing good is as important as being good.
To that that some one who wrote “No cookie for the second best” doesn’t smile often.
