As a society we are obsessed with beauty and anything on us looking perfect. Sure keeping up with hygiene and dressing appropriately is one thing, obsess with the plastic surgery so every instagram influencer looks like the next one is a bit beyond my understanding.
I have many scars, from surgery, from chickenpox from many other small cuts where they extracted my birthmarks etc. I never thought of hiding it.
When one of my friends hurt his knee during dance competition and had to have the surgery. He was left with probably 10 cm thin scar over his knee.. He was devastated and told me he is going for laser to make the scar disappear. I thought what a silly waste of money ..Who cares about that scar ?
Look if it would be on the face very visible etc. I would be like sure, do it but it never occurred to me people would want to get rid of scars even on places which are not immediately visible.
Few weeks back I was walking my dog with a friend. I had worn shorts because it was still boiling hot outside.
Suddenly my friends says: Wow you have amazing long scars on your legs.
Me: Huh ? Yeah from the surgery I had when I was 4 y.o.
Her: That is so cool, in EMO community or you know those who tried to kill themselves you'd be admired.
Me: (again) huh ? Why ?
Her: It is admired to have massive scars by this community. Especially if you jumped from the 4th floor and survived, my ex had a scar going from the neck till his pubic bone, when they tried to stitch him back together.
This conversation is in my head since then. I still have pretty neutral approach to my and anyone's scars. I wish I would be this neutral to any other quality or flaw of my body.I am not. But wen it comes to scars... It is what it is.
Scars can create problems and if you have them, take good care of them. There are lots of good resources how to treat it. You can listen to this podcast: https://www.stopchasingpain.com/scp-podcast-169-mcloughlin-scar-tissue-release/
I am going for minor surgery again today, to add one more tiny scar to my body. I'll be thinking that in some circles I could be a queen of scars. That is valid for almost any flaw we might have, for sure there is a group which admires it. ?? We should take ourselves maybe less seriously when it comes to look. Who knows what flaw will be an advantage at the end.

2 个月Scars simply show your experience. There is nothing bad with them. I never understood why so many people are like ‘possesed’ when they have natural scars after carrying a baby or scars after operation. We all have something, it’s proof of life… perfection doesn’t exist. People should understand that beauty is inside not outside and that no matter what they’ll do they will never be like people in magazines or tv purely because them themselves are not ptotoshopped or do not wear tons od makeup done by professionals in front of special unnatural lights and cameras… real beauty is in your heart and soul, external ‘beauty’, by the way who defined what really is beautiful and what not, is only temporary feature and changes over time… so does it really matter? For me not…
