Scared, single mom finally gains the confidence and makes a leap

* This message will be deeply personal and long, this is your fair warning *

A day or so ago, a friend who's also a client of mine messaged me about wanting to talk.

We picked Thursday, 8 pm ET.

 ===

It's been 8 months since we last discussed in detail about her situation.

As a single mom of a toddler, she was let go of her job with no severance or unemployment. Luckily, she had a part-time, family, and friends.

I remembered our calls, as if, we had them yesterday. She told me her dreams of moving 14 hours away and pursuing a new life.

Of course, I said, “DO IT.” And, gave her encouraging advice that it will work itself out. We started to break down options for strategies.

Then, she changed her mind. She got cold feet.

She was going to stay put and just “try” to work it out.

Periodically, I would check in to see how she and her daughter were doing.

===

During our call yesterday, I jumped straight in and said, “so, what's going on?”

She said she wanted to thank me for planting the seeds, even though they were “dormant” for a while, she finally had the courage now to pursue her dream.

There was more mushy stuff. Let's just say she made me cry more than once.

She said she decided to jump on the train instead of wait on the platform.

I love this analogy.

As she broke down how the stars were aligning once she committed to her vision, money issues began to resolve, transportation questions answered, options for work - in progress.

But, she said the most beautiful thing I've heard one of my clients say - I realized the way my job once existed doesn't exist anymore; therefore, I have to take my transferable skills to find a new job.

Amen!

I was a sobering mess on the other end of the phone.

You see, I had an introspective 24-hrs prior to our call.

I was balancing being selfish with being selfless. Thinking and feeling my way through how I better serve the world through relationships.

And, my friend's phone call came at the right time.

She said, “Just help people plant seeds. At the end of the day, they have to mentally, emotionally, and spiritually be ready for change. If those things aren't aligned, then they won't be ready to move. Look at me. But, I got it now.”

There's someone who's been following me on LinkedIn who needs to change, you're one decision away from changing our life.

Oh you!! Now I am all mushy for her. However, if she can take that huge leap, I can continue to push through my temporary situation. After all most things in life are. Best of luck to her!
