Scania to push for decarbonisation in Davos
Leaders from politics, business, civil society and academia will gather in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting 2023, from 16 to 20 January. Christian Levin, our President and CEO, represents Scania and TRATON.
The meeting, with the theme “Cooperation in a Fragmented World” is an opportunity for leaders to come together and share ideas, plans and solutions to the world’s most pressuring issues for the year ahead of us. Levin has two parallel aims: to push for a more ambitious decarbonisation agenda for the transport sector, and second; to join forces with other forerunners for a sustainable world.
Decarbonisation
Scania has the technology to decarbonise heavy transport: “We have the products and solutions that will drive the shift towards a sustainable transport sector. What is needed for a global transition to take place is bold political decision-making,” he says.
Build partnerships
Scania has stated many times that although we pave the way for sustainable transport, we can’t do it alone. To work with others to create the conditions necessary is vital. “We constantly partner with others to develop our products and offering, we join forces in advocacy for decarbonisation, and to find solutions to challenges that are not within our own control,” Levin continues.
Partnerships are at the core of Scania’s strategy to drive the shift towards a sustainable transport system, and World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting is really where great partnerships are made. “I particularly look forward to interesting discussions on financial solutions for the decarbonisation of transports, on building more resilient and sustainable supply chains for the transport sector, and on political measures to strengthen demand for emission-free vehicles and green mobility.”

Action on-site
To enable our proof-points, Levin will of course meet with those that can enable the impact needed. “I look forward to meet First Movers Coalition, where we contribute with our knowledge to decrease emissions within the areas steel and trucking,” Levin says. The partnership uses its collective purchasing power to drive change.
The Alliance CEO Climate Leaders will also be present, and is a great platform to accelerate climate action within several sectors. “We are a part of a major force here, that puts pressure on governments and also encourages all business leaders to set bold targets for climate.”
Show the way
Scania’s work to secure sustainable transport is one piece of the puzzle. The data from more than 600,000 connected trucks on the roads enables more businesses to take the step to fossil-free transport. “We can offer electric transport solutions, where we optimise routes, flows and deployment of charging points. To see that our valuable customers are on board on our journey is amazing. We hope to keep earning their trust and are thankful that so many haulage companies are innovative and brave to take on future technology,” Levin concludes.
