Rest “Wake up before everyone else and work through the night. Hustle.” — Gary Vaynerchuk
Hustle seems to be the buzzword among entrepreneurs and business leaders. Whatever you’re facing and whatever’s going on, you need to hustle faster than your competition. Work harder than everyone else and do whatever it takes. Deliver all of that and more! This has become a golden rule if you want to be successful in business.
Don’t get me wrong, there are so many times and situations we will go through where hustle is a necessary ingredient. In general, work ethic is extremely important, and often a missing part of a large percentage of future generations. As a young profissional, hustle was a massive part of my strategies, and I can see how it paid off.
Improving leadership depends on a healthy and godly rest mindset. As leaders, it’s important to understand that we are not machines and we shouldn’t act like we are. A good place to start is to understand that rest is not a weakness. I have met many leaders, young and old, who seem to wear a proverbial badge of honor because of their lack of sleep. We need to purge this from our thinking because it is absurd. Lack of sleep and working at full steam is not honorable.

Have you noticed that sleep has become one of the most popular searches on Google? When it comes to sleep, the internet is practically exploding with searches and web searches. If you don’t search for sleep or sleep aids, you are in the minority. If you go to Google for sleep aids, you will stumble upon countless scientific research studies that point to the dangers of sleep deprivation. Some consequences are as extreme as heart disease, depression, memory loss, and death. Rushing without protective rest and recovery has side effects that include, but are not limited to, increased illness, decreased productivity, loss of focus, and emotional instability. Improving our leadership requires work ethic, pressure, and sheer determination! But understand that rest is important. Jesus made it clear to His disciples and the Pharisees that “the Sabbath was made for men, not men for the Sabbath.” Our Creator gave us the ability to make, build, and work, but He also gave us the gift of rest on the Sabbath.
Perhaps we have a distorted view of rest, a need for achievement, or a sense of needing to gain the approval of people, leadership, or God that leads us to a lack of rest.
