Scaling your leadership – 2 of 8

How often do you see things you've never noticed before? For example, the car you just bought now seems to be everywhere, even though you don't remember seeing it before. Often, the Bible or a book can be the same way. You read a verse or passage over and over again, and then, out of nowhere, something new jumps out at you. This is one of the many things I love about reading God’s Word. J. Lee always reminds me that, “We learn on a need-to-know basis.”
As you can see in this image, the books are held in place by supports. Bookends represent the Word of God and serve as a way to stand firm. This image represents our lives as leaders. We should have shelves full of books that we are learning from. These shelves are also filled with experiences that have shaped us and education that has prepared us. These resources are powerful and useful, and God will use them as He sees fit. But what is critical to our mission are the bookends that surround these books, experiences, and education.
As leaders, one of the most essential ways to enhance leadership is to build a solid foundation in God's Word. All of our learning, experiences, and education must pass through the filter of the truth of God's Word: the bookend. This will shape our perspective and allow us to process the real truth of situations and circumstances.

Then, when (not if) the journey becomes difficult, we will be able to expand our leadership because the truth of God's Word is within us and will guide us to respond accordingly. God's Word within us provides the biblical wisdom needed to be an excellent leader. God, I want His truth to penetrate my heart and spirit. Talk to me and remind me to make the Armor of God bookends a regular part of my day.
