Scaling Effective Teamwork

Effective teamwork is critical to organizational success, yet most leaders struggle with getting their teams to achieve sustained superior results, adapt to change, and improve over time. How successful would organizations be if more teams were high performing? And are there ways to do this without hiring expensive team coaches for every team in an organization???
Talent management systems are the keys to scaling effective teamwork. To what extent is your organization:
·??????Selecting leaders and high-potential candidates with proven team building skills?
·??????Providing leaders with benchmarking feedback on team dynamics and performance?
·??????Training leaders how to build high performing teams?
·??????Factoring teams into leader on-boarding plans??
·??????Promoting and rewarding leaders who can build teams?
Most talent management systems give scant attention to teams, yet leadership is a team sport. The best talent management systems take both individual attributes and team building ability into account. We have worked with a variety of organizations to address these five questions, and most start by training leaders on how to build teams.
Building teams should be no different than setting goals, delegating work, or coaching staff; these are basic skills for all leaders. We’ve created one to two-day programs that provide participants with insight into their teams’ strengths and weaknesses, how their teams compare with others, and practical tools to improve team performance. Over 5,000 leaders have attended one of these programs.

2 年I like this question Gordon (Gordy) Curphy, PhD. "How successful would organizations be if more teams were high performing?" I'd guess most leaders don't know what a high performing team is. And it's not their fault. It's hard to learn something if you don't know that it even exists.

2 年Interesting you made this distinction: "both individual attributes and team building ability into account" does the leader personal attributes different to team building attributes?
