Ignition Programme 2024 now open for applications
Applications opened in April for the only edition of the SBIC?Ignition Programme in 2024, which is a key resource for anyone in the Netherlands wishing to launch a space related business. If you are unsure of the steps to take initially, we recommend that you read this blog post. The pre-incubation?trajectory offers dedicated training with a core programme of 5 days (spread over 5 weeks), alongside other compulsory activities prior to, during and following the core training days (see an at-a-glance overview here). The goal is to deepen the various aspects of a successful idea. In essence, the programme educates startups to develop an insight-based and validated business plan. Its aims are two-fold:?to facilitate startups to accelerate their market entry; and to support startups with the ESA BIC application process. Interested?

Spiders on Mars?
ESA’s Mars Express has snapped traces of something that resembles "spiders" scattered across the southern polar region of Mars.?Rather than being actual spiders, these small, dark features form when spring sunshine falls on layers of carbon dioxide deposited over the dark winter months. The sunlight causes carbon dioxide ice at the bottom of the layer to turn into gas, which subsequently builds up and breaks through slabs of overlying ice. The gas bursts free in martian springtime, dragging dark material up to the surface as it goes and shattering layers of ice up to a metre thick.?This newly-released image is by the CaSSIS (Colour and Stereo Surface Imaging System) instrument aboard ESA’s ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO).?Read more
[Image description: A slice of the martian surface is shown. A rounded segment of an eroded crater basin is visible to the right. The key features seen across the image are dark spots with tendrils that are eerily reminiscent of spiders, which are visible in large numbers to the left and scattered irregularly across the image.]
