Sayonara September

Sayonara September

The theme of September has certainly been transition. We all collectively said goodbye to summer, and personally, I said farewell to half-day Fridays and fully remote work.

[pauses for a moment of silence.]

Yep, I am a hybrid worker now. This shake-up in my routine has led to some overdue reflection on my work structure. While remote work has its unique set of perks, I’m fully leaning into what I can gain from this alternative work schedule. One aspect that indubitably required a refresh is my morning office regime, so I figured we could do an update together. First and foremost, I’m not a morning person, but I know I will be unstoppable the minute I decide to become one. Until then, we’ll save the wake-up ritual convo for another edition and stick to reassessing how we start our workday:

1.??? The Commute

·????? What emotion does your commute invoke?

·????? Do you make any unnecessary stops along the way?

·????? What mindful habits can you incorporate into your commute?

Hint: meditation, daily affirmations, relaxing sounds, podcasts, etc.

2.??? The Arrival

What time are you expected at your occupation? Do you have a few moments to yourself to presently arrive to your workspace? If not, you should consider clocking in before your colleagues and the officially workday begins.

3.??? The Start

·????? How do you set the tone for your day?

·????? What positive habits have you adopted to cultivate productivity?

·????? What detrimental habits have to stop in order to maximize your time?

One thing that has completely transformed my day is eating the frog first. Mark Twain coined the phrase with the idea that if you do that one task you dread, first thing in the morning, you will maximize output. Asana breaks down this concept in more detail here.

Regardless of the office setting, it's time to reevaluate your office regime. What aspect of your routine or ambiance can use an revamp? Admittedly, my current space lacks inspiration due to my previous sporadic remote work schedule, but I’m embracing this transition as an opportunity to redecorate my office. I even started a mood board for my office, yes I'm committed.

Before I head out with this latest edition, October 10th is World Mental Health Day. Do I even need to say it? In case I do, TAKE THE DAY.
