Say Yes, Screw Up, and Keep Going

I’ve heard there are a million ways to define a successful life, and I believe that. But instead of just asking what success looks like or what we want from life, maybe we should ask ourselves something more important: What am I afraid of?
Life is full of challenges. Things will go wrong—in love, work, friendships, and health. That’s life. So when life gets tough, when things don’t go as planned, here’s what I’ve learned to do:
Focus on something outside of yourself. Create something. Put your energy into making the world suck just a little bit less every day. Some say it boosts your well-being, others call it good karma. But I think it’s more than that.
It’s a reminder that whether you’re following in someone else’s footsteps or carving out your own path, the air you are breathing right now is rare. Take a second to appreciate that—you’re here, you’re alive, and you have time.
You’ve got time to figure out who you are, what you want, and where you’re going. Time to make mistakes, fail, and try again. And even when you mess that up, you’ve still got time—as long as you’re willing to keep putting in the effort.
If an opportunity comes your way and you’re not sure you can do it, say yes anyway. You’ll figure it out as you go, because growth happens in the trying, not just the knowing.
But don’t go through life alone. Build your life around people who support you, who push you to be better. Find those who love you, and love them back and remember, love isn’t always easy. It’s something you have to work at and requires commitment.

And this is where courage comes in. Courage isn’t just about big, heroic acts. It’s in the small, everyday moments—starting a conversation, saying good morning to a stranger, doing something small that makes someone else’s day a little better. That’s where real bravery lives.
Even when you’ve got that diploma in your hands, landed that dream job, or started your own business, you’re still learning. And trust me, life isn't just about work, it's the people in your life and the moments that matter. The real lesson is learning how to truly value them.
So, pick up the phone. Send that message. Write the email. Hug your best friend. Kiss the person you love. Live generously—with your time, your energy, and your heart.
Be bold. Be creative. Be curious. And most importantly, be yourself.
Say yes, screw up, and keep going. ??

1 个月I think this my favourite WHY article so far. So much wisdom packed into 2 minutes! No one ever arrived at their death bed and wished for less epic stories to tell. The bigger the 'dragon', the more epic the story. The more epic the story, the more epic the hero/in. And it starts with saying 'yes' to something that scares you. Thanks for such a glorious reminder!
