Say No Third World War

Say No Third World War

?In his seminal book It Worked for Me in Life and Leadership, the former USA Secretary of State Colin Powell asserts that the military encourages competition. War is a competition, the ultimate test of purpose, preparation, determination, courage, risk and execution.

?The world is standing on the precipice of Third World War, unless maximum restraint is exercised in the Russia- Ukraine war. It is a tragedy that leading members of the United Nations Security Council are unwittingly fueling and abetting the war. Their entanglement is recipe for a colossal disaster and is costing innocent lives, livelihoods, decimation of towns, cities, historical sites and infrastructure. It is such a human tragedy that anything that sustains life is reduced to rubble and nothingness. These gross human rights violations are unparalleled and have no precedence. This brutal madness must stop forthwith.

It is quite scary to see the world on the brink of Third World War. Lest we forget that:

?At dawn on 1 September 1939 Germany attacked Poland, and the Second World War began. France, Britain and the Dominions of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa all declared war on Germany. The Prime Minister of Great Britain, Mr Neville Chamberlain, invited Mr Churchill to fill the post of First Admiralty, a post which Mr Churchill had held at the beginning of the First World War.

The Germany Army and Air Force overran Poland in less than a month, and by the end of September the first phase of the war was over. It was expected that great battles would begin in the West, and that massive air attacks would be launched against Britain. But a strange lull intervened, on land and in the air. The first winter of 1939-40 has been described as the period of “The Twilight War”.

At the end of World War 11, the deadliest and most destructive war in human history claimed between 40 and 50 million lives, displaced tens of millions of people.

The international community must find ways and mechanisms to de-escalate the Russia- Ukraine war and also find a lasting solution to the Israel and Palestine crisis.
