They Say, "The Shoe Maker's Shoe is Never Tied" - The Power of a Business Card
So, all my life I've been recalling a conversation with my 18 year old boyfriend's dad. He owned a beautiful, amazing furniture business and I couldn't wait to meet him and see his house. When I did, it was like, "WTF?..." the furniture was awful!!!- But, we didn't have that expression back then so, I was just like "Wow!" .... He took me aside and said, "Honey, the shoe maker's shoe is never tied..."
Anyway, push forward like 30 years and all I ever see is, "the shoe maker"...I myself, am a "shoe maker". I get what he was trying to say! I NEVER have a business card on me and I am the owner of a PR firm! Well, one of my incredible clients is Anne Thornton of MSI Plumbing and Remodeling, and she has a book out that's going crazy! She speaks everywhere (call me if you want a "universal fit" speaker on home maintenance - your people will LOVE HER!), and her book is like my second, "Bible".
Anyway, she said to me recently, "If you don't get new business cards, you won't be coming with me..." and so, I did! It took 15 minutes with Staples online and so then, I realized how many opportunities I have missed by not having a simple card with me all the time.... I forgot how great it felt to have them too!
So, tonight - at TGIF's - I had my cards....eager to be engaging and so (really confident!-- it kind of changes everything up too,...!) and I played my cards down like an experienced black jack dealer and four people in the room needed and want PR and services.
I laughed to myself thinking what just taking two seconds to sharpen the blade is over cutting the tree - me- myself, my own bad..... So, this is a short story, but I can't tell you how many times I've wished I had my card with me and how even the young business professionals want and have asked me for something to take away.
PS - I have to note that two of the young professionals just took the photo (as shown) of my business card, but hey, that works for me! LOL!
End of day - I believe business cards are still in business!
Hope you enjoyed my story! -
