Say hello to the new us - Why did Lucideus become Safe Security?

Leo Tolstoy said that “True life is lived when tiny changes occur”.

Since our inception, we have embraced countless tiny, yet significant changes. As a testament to the industry we are in, if one doesn’t grow, they are simply counted out of the race, and there was no chance we were letting that happen! Back in 2012, we were a young start-up focussed on what we did best - cybersecurity services - and we excelled at it. 

However, through the first couple of years, there was a particular genre of questions we could not answer for our customers. “How secure will we be after the recommended patches?” “How likely are we of getting hacked if we address the top 30% of the riskiest vulnerabilities you’ve found? … “How secure are we, today?” For an industry as dynamic as cybersecurity, answering such a blanket question required a solution which could, in itself, adapt to changes yet maintain consistency and standardisation.

A catch- 22 situation, I must say.

“The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.”

A problem was before us and we had to solve it. We studied the existing architecture and realised that the industry has traditionally relied upon heat maps of red-amber-green and successfully maintained an indifference when it came to accuracy in prediction, ironic as it seems.

It was natural for us - a group of enthusiastic geeks - to go looking for our answer in the mystical world of mathematics. Thus began our flirtation with the Bayesian Network, machine learning and algorithms, written and rewritten to answer that deviously simple question… How secure are you, today considering the probability of being breached in a given finite time in the future?

After almost 200,00 hours in services, studying customer feedback, partnering with some of the top institutes on the planet such as MIT and IIT B, on-boarding top quantification experts such as Douglas Hubbard, and with a lot of trial and error, we launched SAFE - Security Assessments Framework for Enterprises in 2017. Soon after, we shifted our headquarters to the US in Palo Alto and a start-up from India was becoming a global business with its product in the front and centre. Across the world, we were referred to “as the company that designed SAFE” - “the SAFE people”. In 2020, despite the pandemic, we recorded a (whooping) 250% increase in our revenue (year-on-year) and we noticed a significant tip in the scales- from 2017 when most of our revenue came from our services to last year where almost 70% of our revenue came through our product! The world was subconsciously correlating our company with our product; they were taking note of our metamorphosis and we recognized it too. Rather than sit idly, like a butterfly fresh out of its cocoon we too decided to fly.

Our metamorphosis is now complete with Lucideus changing its identity to Safe Security - starting with our name, we are creating a unified and singular brand identity that is consistent across our international existence- spilling over to our meticulously coded products, our beautifully designed website, and everything we do, which includes our mission...

To paraphrase Steve Jobs - The teams who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.

With SAFE firmly at the epicentre of our growth, pipeline and expansion, we might be crazy but we have a bold mission to make our SAFE score the de-facto-standard in digital business risk quantification by 2025, to help businesses across the world measure and mitigate cyber risks.
