Say HELLO to My Authentic Self

Being authentic is my super power.

You are going to love me or hate me. I can't change that. I have learned the hard way to accept who I am deep down inside is good enough. No, MORE than good enough.

I teach a social media content creation class at eXp University to Realtors from 17 countries. I tell them they are YOU-nique. Embrace that!

Once a woman asked me, "I swear a lot. Should I sanitize my blogs and Facebook posts?"

My answer: Hell no! If they are going to work with her through the challenging gauntlet of getting a real estate transaction closed, they are going to hear her swear. Shit, I start swearing at the frustrating idiocies that arise during the process and I was brought up that ladies in the 1950s didn't even know those words. (wink. wink.)

Swearing was baked into her personality. If $#(*"%# offends you, then you are not her perfect client. You'd probably be better off working with Donna Read me.

There is plenty of business for both of us.

Why Authenticity Is Powerful

I have no acting prowess whatsoever. I wear my emotions on my sleeve. I just can't play the role of someone else and pull it off. Too much emotional energy spent on nothing!

I first had to learn to love the real me, not the me I thought the world wanted. I struggled just like Dominque Francon in The Fountainhead. Yes, friends, it is not easy stripping away the "shoulds" of our society and culture.

This is particularly difficult if you are an older woman....

It took me 50 years to be OK with me. But I can tell you this discovery was worth the struggle. It's freeing financially, emotionally and biologically.

Once I was truly OK with me, my business boomed. I attracted people who liked me just the way I am. They wanted me to be their Realtor. I didn't have to winnow out who would be a good fit for my services.

I have more money in the bank than I ever did trying to be someone I wasn't.

Then I lost 15 pounds during the pandemic. My sleep efficiency jumped into the high 80s.

One of my favorite songs was in the Broadway play Avenue Q. It's called "It Sucks to Be Me." Now I've learned it's great to be me. Because you can't do that!

I have just barely met Beth Ellyn Rosenthal, but I have been extremely impressed with all of her knowledge and encouragement! She helped to get me to start doing videos. I never even liked getting my picture taken. It has taken me three years of thinking about it and not daring to do it. Now in a short time I have done six videos. The quality isn't very good. The sound doesn't go with my lips and it is poor quality. But, what matters to me is that I dared to do it, thanks to Beth Ellyn Rosenthal!
