Say Goodbye to KPI's
This spring (2019), Boyden Cairo is partnering with an international guru in performance management systems to launch a series of lectures on a new approach to disrupt the saga of KPI's and replace it with a more effective and relatable tool without the fuss of yet another complicated template to fill. The central premise is one that builds a better dialogue between managers & subordinates, fosters trust, and sets much needed clarity to drive performance.
Some say we live in a world governed by Key Performance Indicators. While the notion of having performance management & performance assessment parameters is a necessity for any work, the tools used have evolved over the years. Management in any corporation is in a continuous pursuit of performance management systems that are objective, simple and effective. Distilling your expectations from employees to SMART objectives that are the implicit performance 'contracts' that you review once or twice a year seemed like the reasonable way to manage performance, but more importantly the pathway to building a performance culture in any organizations.
As years go by, employees & managers fall under the spell of monotony running these daunting yearly conversations, and the quality of these performance review sessions wear down calling the need to 'jump-start' the process with a refreshed template or a motivational training on how to improve these review discussions. But in reality employees have evolving expectations on how to be managed. In a dynamic & fast(er)-changing digital world, millennials are leading a shift in work culture to emphasis on work-life-balance, empowerment & flatter corporate structures. The idea that you save the performance conversation with your subordinate or manager to the annual 'ceremonious' meeting often come with surprises, frustration & defensive discussions that simply defy the very purpose of motivating employees.
Like all of you, we too have experienced the fading effectiveness of conventional performance management systems. Luckily, we at Boyden have found a breakthrough approach that not only delivers what we need, but creates the right people culture that is the cornerstone of team success.
