The world's first off-road solar car: Stella Terra
During Intertraffic, several demo sessions took place, and Stella Terra was among them. As the world's first off-road solar car, it was an honour to have the Solar Team Eindhoven with us. Stella Terra blends solar energy with off-road capability and nothing beats a live demo.
“With Terra, your journey is not just about reaching your destination; it's about embracing the limitless potential of the great outdoors, driven by the power of the sun.” (Stella Family — Solar Team Eindhoven, z.d. )
It is crafted to be self-sufficient, removing the requirement for charging stations, and it is engineered to tackle not just paved roads but also rugged terrain. Stella Terra provides a practical and sustainable option for off-road enthusiasts, unlocking fresh opportunities for eco-conscious adventures.
ELMO: The Future Mobility Network
Speaking about demos, they are an integral part of any exhibition. Having multiple demos provides visitors with the opportunity to experience a product or service firsthand, and the experience is truly unmatched. During Intertraffic, ELMO proudly unveiled its 3rd generation workstation, a milestone in expanding remote driving technology.
The ELMO shared car operates as a remote-controlled vehicle delivered directly to your doorstep. Renters simply order a shared car through an app, prompting it to autonomously drive to their location, all without the need for a human driver. A specially trained and certified remote operator guides the car to the designated starting point. Once the car arrives, renters can access it via the app and commence their journey. Upon reaching their destination, the car autonomously returns to a parking space or shared mobility hub, ready for its next use.
At Intertraffic Amsterdam, attendees had the opportunity to personally test the vehicles, while the cars themselves were being driven around in Estonia, with the driver located miles away in Amsterdam!

What can we learn from driverless Robotaxis?
Prof. Billy Riggs and Tom Alkim offer valuable insights into autonomous vehicle (AV) technology and its implications for car ownership and traffic regulations. Intertraffic Summit Theatre 3 hosted an intriguing discussion shedding light on the dynamic advancements within the realm of autonomous vehicles (AVs) during Intertraffic Amsterdam 2024.
Just five days post the resumption of Cruise’s robotaxis venture following a noteworthy hiatus due to a high-profile crash in October, the event provided a timely platform for exploration. Prof Billy Riggs from the University of San Francisco articulated his belief that AV technology progressions will not only reduce car ownership but also present a myriad of opportunities for widespread adoption of robotaxis fleets.
Another less-discussed benefit highlighted was the influence of AVs on moderating speeding traffic, as vehicles adhering to speed limits enforce compliance, potentially transforming driving norms. Joined by Tom Alkim from MAPtm, the duo shared their insights, reflecting on the evolution of AVs over the years and the evolving perceptions surrounding their integration into daily life.
The presentation underscored the need for continued collaboration among stakeholders to realise the full potential of automated driving, with Riggs and Alkim championing the cause for enhanced public understanding and acceptance of AV technology
