Saving the Young Smile with Dr. Almazedi
How young do full mouth rehabilitation cases go down to?
What is the price for a ‘natural aesthitic smile?’
Why are so many asking for Feldspathic?
These are just some questions that Google alone is being questioned about on a daily occurrence but who best to answer the question than a dentist themself?
This season, The Weekly Bite will sit down for a tête-à-tête with some of the dental community’s most admired professionals to help answer these questions.
Renowned by media influencers, sportsmen and international athletes Dr. Mohammed Almazedi graciously sits in for a chat!
The Kuwait hailing dentist shared insights into the challenges and considerations involved in treating young patients requiring extensive dental care.
The conversation highlighted the critical aspects of patient selection, the importance of proper treatments, and the concerning trend of young individuals with severe dental issues.
CHDL: Dr. Almazedi, you've mentioned having young patients who require significant dental interventions. How young would you say these patients are?
Dr. Almazedi: I am not proud of it, but I have some young patients, and I feel bad for them
CHDL: How young would you say?
Dr. Almazedi: In their early 20s. So imagine, at this age, they need to have a full mouth rehabilitation.
This early onset of significant dental issues often requires comprehensive treatment plans, which can be daunting for both the patient and the dental team. Dr. Almazedi emphasized the importance of providing solutions that not only address the functional aspects but also consider the aesthetic and psychological well-being of the patients.
CHDL: What are some considerations you keep in mind when treating these young patients?
Dr. Almazedi: You have to give them something highly aesthetic and not show that treatment was done, so they don’t feel left out or insecure, especially when dealing with their healing time frame.
CHDL: How long does the healing process take?
Dr. Almazedi: Roughly 3 to 6 months.

The healing process for full mouth rehabilitation can vary, but Dr. Almazedi noted that a typical timeframe is around three to six months. This period is crucial for ensuring that the patients recover well and that the dental work integrates seamlessly.
Our conversation also explored the topic of patient awareness and preferences for specific treatments, such as feldspathic veneers. While these veneers are known for their natural appearance and durability, not all patients are familiar with the technical details.
Dr. Almazedi pointed out that the influence of celebrities plays a crucial role in shaping patients' desires. Many patients often seek a smile they covet from a picture online, without fully understanding the procedures, names, and lifelong commitments that cosmetic dentistry entails. This gap between patient expectations and the realities of dental treatment underscores the importance of patient education and setting realistic goals.
CHDL: Do you have any patients that specifically ask for feldspathic veneers?
Dr. Almazedi: They don’t know the material like that; they do know to point at a picture and say, 'I want that too.'
Dr. Almazedi highlighted a critical issue in patient care: the gap between what patients desire and what is feasible or advisable based on their dental history. He stressed that while some patients might be suitable candidates for such procedures, others may not be, particularly if previous dental work has compromised their oral health.
Dr. Almazedi: Now, while there are some patients I can readily agree to do it for, there are other patients where it just is impossible because of all the previous work they’ve done to themselves. It ruined their chances.
Dr. Almazedi underscores the importance of early and proper dental care, as well as the need for realistic expectations and patient education.
His approach emphasizes a balance between aesthetic desires and the practical realities of dental health.
