This new lawn saves up to 1,625 gallons of water every week and uses one third less fertilizer. Securing tomorrow's water needs today.
Why use real grass? Here are several environmental benefits to having real grass. A turf area 50' x 50' produces enough oxygen to meet the everyday needs of a family of four. Each acre of grass produces enough oxygen for 64 people a day.
Dust and smoke particles from the atmosphere are trapped by turf which helps keep the air cleaner. Noise is absorbed by grass areas which cut down on excessive sound, a growing problem in urban areas. For example, grassed slopes beside lowered expressways reduce noise 8-10 decibels. Grassed surfaces reduce temperature extremes by absorbing the sun's heat during the day and releasing it slowly in the evening, thus moderating temperature. Grass plants absorb some solar radiation to fuel the photosynthesis process.
The cooling properties of turf are so effective that temperatures over turfed surfaces on a sunny summer day will be 10 - 14 degrees cooler than over concrete or asphalt and can be 40-50 degrees cooler than artificial turf. Or to put it another way, consider the fact that on a block of eight average homes, the front lawns have the cooling effect of 70 tons of air conditioning!
At EcōsPure we develop materials that maximize the efficiency of water conservation and remediation with products like HydraMat? a special, sub soil surface, fabric with bio friendly smart materials that regulate irrigation water evaporation from the ground under and around plants. This product has demonstrated the ability to conserve irrigation water by over 50% in arid (Arizona) and semi-arid climates.
In addition to water conservation our patent pending technology has the ability to remove the key watershed pollutants, Ammonia, Nitrogen and Phosphorus from agriculture and landscape runoff water, which is the cause every year, of the devastating algae blooms that impact the lakes, rivers and oceans in our water ecosystem.
For a quick perspective how much turf is out there, turf grass beautifies tens of millions of home lawns, totaling 40 Million acres, it provides safe playing surfaces on over 700,000 athletic fields, outdoor recreation for nearly 26 million golfers on over 17,000 golf courses. So you can see why water demands to support population and economic growth are presenting new challenges for residential, commercial and agricultural water use.
New conservation methods are needed, particularly for the 17 Western States that account for nearly three-quarters of U.S. irrigated agriculture. EcōsPure is providing the answers to these problems with products like HydraMat which can reduce outdoor water use by 50%, giving it the potential to save millions of acre feet of water every single year.

7 年Coming from the desert of Las Vegas, no state has done more for water conservation. Many people will convert all turf to droight tolerant landscape or artificial turf. Some people will NEVER give up their turf, and this is the conservation alternative to reduce their water consumption and keep the turf they love. Dont get me started on water consumption rates for food crops, I live within the Colorado River Pact. This is a great product and should be applauded for the merits it achieves

8 年What is your mat made of? Is it plastic? How does it work? . What does "fabric with bio friendly smart materials that regulate irrigation water evaporation from the ground " mean? Regardless of any patent, as a designer I would absolutely have to know any and all details.

8 年Good list of the benefits of lawns. I'd like to add a bit more for small lawns folks in cities where buildings are close together: A lawn gives a sense of spaciousness and much needed relief from the density of the buildings. The green color is physically healing/nourishing the soft texture feels good to see and sit on, and the soil beneath a healthy lawn is Sequestering Carbon. In drought situations, a small lawn can be kept going with reclaimed/recycled water.

8 年Very cool, still would rather see something that doesn't require so much chemical maintenance and didn't use so much resources . #growfoodnotlawns
