The Grade 12 year is an iconic highlight in a students’ schooling career. It marks the final year of high school and the end of a long journey. It is filled with exciting things such as leadership roles within the school, Matric farewell dances, final sports seasons and the final days of childhood. But NOT this year.
2020 began with the promise of an amazing year for our senior students. 2020, the year of perfect vision and great promise was disrupted in March this year when schools were closed and the country was thrown into National Lockdown to slow the spread of Covid-19.
After many mixed emotions, online learning (for some) and life at home the country is opening again but Covid-19 is still a real threat. However, as students you now have the opportunity to save your grade 12 year and turn it into the epic year you were hoping it would be. It won’t be easy but it is possible and it all starts embracing the change, doing your part to stay safe and keep others safe and practice a positive attitude. Whether you have continued learning online or are only starting to catch up your work now there is still a lot you can do to save the year.
How do you save your year?
1. Embrace the new way of living and do your part to uplift those around you.
2. Have a positive mindset, focusing on what you want and working hard to get small wins each day.
3. Practice safe habits when at school and at home to limit the spread of the virus. This includes wearing your mask, washing and sanitising your hands and keeping a safe distance from friends when at school.
4. Set yourself new goals that you can work towards.
5. Take action and do what you need to do to achieve the goals you have set. Remember to seek the help you need from friends, family, teachers, mentors, and coaches and do not face this alone.
Let’s work together and turn the 2020 Matric year into a memorable year despite the circumstances.
Wishing you all well. Stay safe and make each day matter.
