Saving Dorothy and Jim
Last month Sanjeev Naguleswaran, creator of MonitorMyHealth www.monitor-my-health.com, presented at TEDx South Bank. Here’s a copy of his inspiring talk:
“Ladies and Gentlemen. You and I are ageing and what’s more we live within an ageing population. This is going to severely strain our health systems.
Picture now, an elderly couple - Dorothy and Jim. Jim get's up to turn off the TV and feels a bit dizzy. He stumbles. He falls, hitting his leg on the coffee table. Jim is having trouble getting up. Dorothy tries to help. But she's not strong enough and can't phone, as she's recently had trouble with numbers.
Just then the phone rings. It's their carer who immediately sends for an ambulance.
How did she know to call?
She received an alert on her phone telling her of a change in the status in the home. A change from the norm. A number of signals - created an alert.
Sensors coupled with Data Analytics such as MMH provide situational awareness - Constantly listening, watching and learning, when we can't. Relieving the strain on hospitals by allowing people to live safely and comfortably at home.”
MonitorMyHealth is one of a number of new start-ups that want to change how we deliver healthcare. Using advanced Machine Learning, MonitorMyHealth is already helping GPs monitor patients, identify and predict medical outcomes and assist with treatment and care plans.
Sanjeev will be meeting clients in the US through June, send him a message if you’d like to learn more. www.monitor-my-health.com
