Save Your Plea
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence—Helen Keller
One of my clients recently told me about how he wrote cover letters and attended job interviews in his early days.
He was a fresh?graduate?and needed to land a job as soon as possible. He was young at the time, and all he could think about was earning an income to continue to support himself.
He couldn’t imagine?life?without money.
I wouldn’t blame him. We all need money for survival. Don’t we?
He feared?unemployment?so much that he pleaded for jobs on his cover letters and sometimes during interviews. He would also promise the employers his best work and attitude if given the opportunity.
While it might look like he’s only being human, there are a few downsides to pleading for a job.
Employers Want The Best Services, Not The Most Profound Pleas
If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life—Marcus Garvey
Job hunting is a game of survival.
Why?
The hiring process is very competitive.
You can be sure to meet with other stronger candidates or those at the same level as you when applying for a role.
The hiring manager has to sieve through many job applications to find the candidates to shortlist for an interview. The hiring manager has to find the best candidate for the position.
Notice the keyword,?the best candidate.
Employers are not in the business of hiring a candidate because they pleaded with them on the cover letter or during the interview.
It might sound harsh, but they want someone with competence who can fulfil the job responsibilities they have highlighted in the position description. They offer financial benefits in exchange for services.
Pleading Might Dilute The Potency Of Your Candidacy
As long as you keep going, you'll keep getting better. And as you get better, you gain more confidence. That alone is success—Tamara Taylor
I guess my friend here didn’t meet all the requirements and thought to plead his way to the hearts of the hiring manager.
While it might look or sound human to plead your cause, it might dilute the strength of your candidacy. You want to show the employers you are the right candidate for them, and pleading might impact your chances, especially if there are stronger candidates.
Rather than pleading to have the job, focus on convincing the employers about your skills, what you can offer and how you can help them achieve their goals.

Closing Thoughts
Self-confidence is a superpower. Once you start to believe in yourself, the magic starts happening— Unknown
Job hunting can be a daunting process.
I know because I have been there before.
For some job seekers, it takes so long that they have to wait a while to land the job they want.
Sometimes, it gets frustrating, and applicants might be tempted to plead with hiring managers for the job.
While this may appear harmless, you must try not to plead to have the jobs due to your circumstances. Instead, show the employers you are the best person for the job by focusing on what you have and speaking convincingly about your skills and how you can help them.
Remember, employers, are looking for the best person for the job.
Keep it professional, showcase your strengths and save your plea.
